path is a path name to the file or folder whose "invisible bit" you wish to set or clear.
setting is a boolean value indicating whether or not the item should be visible.

Entire folders can be made invisible.

The "invisible bit" indicates whether or not an item will be displayed within its parent folder; this verb does not cause an item to be physically shown on the desktop.
It is usually not a good idea to create invisible files on a user's disk; generally, placing a file in an out-of-the-way location is a better choice.
